Landing page audit

Google Ads landing page audit Check the page, not just the ads.

ClickMend
Short answerA Google Ads landing page audit checks the page your ad sends clicks to, called the final URL. ClickMend scores that page from 0 to 100 on speed, Core Web Vitals, SEO basics, best practices, and accessibility. It checks that your Google Ads conversion tag is on the page and loads. It audits the page, not your ad account.

A landing page audit checks the page, not the account

Most "Google Ads audit" tools look inside your ad account. They check keywords, bids, match types, and budgets. That work matters. But it stops at the click.

This audit starts at the click. It checks the page your ad sends people to. Google calls that page the final URL. It is the page people reach after they click your ad, also known as the landing page.

Why check it on its own? Because a good ad can send people to a bad page. The page can load slowly on a phone. The form can fail. The conversion tag can be missing, so Google never learns a lead came in. None of that shows up in an account audit.

If your ads get clicks but the phone does not ring, check the page before you change the ads again.

So be clear on what you are getting. ClickMend does not log in to your Google Ads account. It does not touch your campaigns. It reads the live landing page the same way a visitor's browser would, then tells you what is wrong with it.

How the audit score works

Each audit gives the page one score from 0 to 100. The score blends five parts. Google PageSpeed Insights supplies the speed and quality data. ClickMend weights it like this:

PartWeightWhat it means
Performance40%How fast the page loads and becomes usable
Core Web Vitals25%Load, response, and layout shift. Uses real visitor data when Google has it, test data when it does not
SEO basics20%Title, description, and other basic page signals
Best practices10%Security and common code problems
Accessibility5%Can more people read and use the page

Speed gets the most weight on purpose. Google's own advice on landing pages says page speed can decide whether someone leaves or buys. A paid click that leaves before the page loads is money gone.

The real visitor data comes from the Chrome User Experience Report. PageSpeed Insights uses the last 28 days of it. When Google does not have that data for a page, the score uses test data instead.

The audit also names the slow parts. That includes JavaScript the page loads but never uses, which is common on pages built with page builders and heavy plugins. You get a list, not just a number.

The tracking checks most audits skip

A fast page still fails you if Google cannot see the lead. Google Ads learns from conversions. If the conversion never fires, your campaigns are steering blind. So the audit checks tracking on the page too.

  • Is a Google Ads conversion tag on the page? If it is not there, no conversion can be counted from this page.
  • Did the tag actually load? A tag can sit in the code and still fail to run.
  • Is the conversion ID still a placeholder? A copied page or template can carry a sample ID that no one replaced.
  • Is Google Tag Manager missing? If your setup expects it and it is gone, your tags are gone with it.
  • Is the conversion linker turned off? Google says to put a conversion linker on any page where people land after an ad click. It saves the click details so a later conversion can be tied back to the ad.

Any one of these can mean leads come in but Google Ads shows zero. That makes good campaigns look bad. For a deeper walk through, see Google Ads conversion tracking not working.

How to run a Google Ads landing page audit

  1. Get the exact final URL. Copy it from the ad in Google Ads. Do not guess. Many accounts send ads to a different page than the home page.
  2. Paste it into the free scanner. No card. You get 2 free scans a week.
  3. Read the score, then the problems. Start with tracking problems. A broken tag costs you more than a slow image.
  4. Fix the top problem first. Do one thing at a time so you know what helped.
  5. Scan again. Check that the score moved and the tag still loads after your change.

Have more than one ad group? Audit each final URL. Different ads often point at different pages, and one bad page can hide behind a few good ones.

The free report shows the problems. Paid plans show the fixes for each one. Plans start at $29 a month for Starter, then $99 for Growth and $199 for Scale, based on how many client workspaces and pages you need. Paid plans also include weekly monitoring with alerts when a page gets worse. See landing page monitoring for how that works.

What landing page audits have found

These are real results from contractor pages. Names are left out on purpose.

01

Roofing company

The ad page scored 42 and loaded in 4.1 seconds. After fixes it scored 93 and loaded in 1.8 seconds.

02

Handyman franchise

The form conversion had never fired once. The audit found it. It was fixed.

03

Restoration company

The page went from 71 to 99, with a 2.0 second load.

04

Flooring company

One page scored 51 at 7.7 seconds. The other scored 100 at 1.8 seconds. After the switch, cost per lead went from $74 to $56.

The handyman case is the one to remember. The form conversion had never fired, so Google Ads was never told about a single form lead. That kind of problem lives on the page, so a check on the page is how you find it.

An audit will not fix your offer or your keywords. It will tell you if the page is slow, if the tag is missing, and what to fix first. If speed is your main worry, read how to run a landing page speed test. If you want to know how the page ties into Google's rating, read the landing page experience checker guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a full Google Ads account audit?

No. It audits the landing page your ad sends people to. It does not look at your keywords, bids, budgets, or search terms.

Is the audit free?

Yes. You get 2 free scans a week with no card. The free report shows the problems. Paid plans show the fixes.

Does it log in to my Google Ads account?

No. It reads the live page from the outside. It does not read your Quality Score or Google's landing page experience rating.

Will fixing the problems lower my cost per click?

We can't promise that. The audit shows what is slow or broken on the page so you can fix it. Results in your account depend on many things.

Before you change the ad again, test where it lands.

Run two free scans every week. See the page score, the tracking check, and the biggest problems on the page.
