Our ClickFunnels results
ClickFunnels is a common pick for ad funnels, so we tested it. Its template gallery did not load previews we could test. So we used 7 of ClickFunnels' own pages on clickfunnels.com, which are built on ClickFunnels: opt-in pages, a trial page, a pricing page, and product pages. We checked each page's code to confirm the builder, then ran it through Google PageSpeed Insights on mobile.
Here is what we found (ClickMend scans, October 2026, 7 pages):
| Measure | Median | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Performance score (0 to 100) | 40 | 29 to 59 |
| Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | 18.0 seconds | 8.1 to 22.8 seconds |
| First Contentful Paint | 7.4 seconds | 4.5 to 14.1 seconds |
| Total Blocking Time (TBT) | 535 ms | 89 to 2,024 ms |
| Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) | 0 | 0 to 0.179 |
| Page weight | 3,413 KB | 2,826 to 5,219 KB |
Google's Lighthouse scoring calls 0 to 49 poor. Four of 7 pages landed there. The other 3 scored 50 to 59.
Lab numbers and real visits are not the same thing. Two of these pages had their own real-user data from Google. Real visitors saw the main content in 1.8 and 3.6 seconds (75th percentile), while the lab test showed 8.1 and 21.9 seconds. The lab runs a slow simulated phone, so read these numbers as a way to compare and to find slow parts.
Why care for Google Ads? A funnel's first page is where the paid click lands. Google's own Quality Score help page says the speed your page loads can be the difference between someone bouncing or buying. ClickMend does not read your Quality Score, but it checks the speed and tracking parts of the page that feed into landing page experience. Our guide to the landing page part of Quality Score explains more.
What slowed the pages
- Video players. Six of 7 pages embedded a video player, from YouTube or another video host. The video files and player code added 487 to 2,078 KB per page.
- Files that block the first paint. Flagged on all 7, with estimated savings of 2.3 to 6.1 seconds. Shared script libraries and an icon font library were on most lists.
- Icon library. All 7 pages loaded the Font Awesome icon library. That is a lot of code for a few small icons.
- Unused JavaScript. A median 908 KB per page, from the video player, Google Tag Manager, a Facebook pixel, and shared libraries.
- Tracking tags. Tag and pixel scripts were a median 355 KB per page, and 1,642 KB on one opt-in page.
- Main-thread work. Flagged on 6 of 7, from 2.9 to 8.4 seconds of browser work on a simulated phone.
Fixes for ClickFunnels pages
- Replace an auto-loading video at the top with a still image and a play button. Load the player only when someone taps it.
- Ask if the ad page needs video at all. For a service business, a phone button and a short form often do the job.
- Remove icon packs and extra script libraries you don't use. Use a few small images for icons instead.
- Keep only the tracking you use: the Google Ads tag and maybe one analytics tool. Every extra pixel adds script.
- Compress images and keep the first screen simple: headline, proof, form, phone.
- After changes, confirm the conversion still fires on the next funnel step. Our conversion tracking guide shows the check.
A funnel has more than one page. Test each step a paid visitor sees, starting with the first one. If the opt-in page is quick but the next page loads a heavy video, people can still drop off between steps.
Then test the funnel's first page with a free ClickMend scan. It names the slow scripts and checks your Google Ads tag in one report.
Limits of this test
- We tested 7 pages. A small sample.
- These were ClickFunnels' own marketing pages, not templates and not your ad pages. They carry ClickFunnels' own video and tags. A simple funnel page you build may be much lighter, or heavier.
- Lab data from one run per page on a simulated mid-tier phone. Scores move a little each run.
- Because the pages are a different kind than the template demos we tested for Wix or Squarespace, compare across builders with care.
See all 8 builders in the landing page builder speed test, or compare with Leadpages and GoHighLevel, which we tested the same way.
Frequently asked questions
Is ClickFunnels good for Google Ads?
It can run Google Ads traffic, but test the funnel page on mobile first. In our small test of 7 ClickFunnels-built pages, the median mobile score was 40 out of 100, and video players, icon libraries, and tracking scripts made up much of the weight.
Why is my ClickFunnels page slow?
In our test, the most common slow parts were embedded video players on 6 of 7 pages, render-blocking files on all 7, and heavy main-thread work on 6 of 7. A video at the top of the page is often the single biggest item.
Do lab scores match what real visitors see?
Not exactly. Two of our ClickFunnels pages had real-user data from Google. Their real-user LCP was 1.8 and 3.6 seconds, while the lab test showed 8.1 and 21.9 seconds. Lab tests are best for comparing pages and finding slow parts.
